Light, Gabriel

Gabriel Light
TDS - Vampire

Date of birth: 18th May 1845
Place of birth: Kent, England
Date of change: 21st June 1866
Age at change: 21

Appearance: He's about 6'1" in height, 175 pounds in weight, which means he's quite average in size. His hair is the darkest of black, as dark as the night in which he hides. But his eyes shine with the shocking light of the very sun he is forced to shun. The colour of his eyes doesn't reflect his diet, they are electric blue because he was born blind, but with a shocking twist, his change brought with it the gift of sight.

History:
Gabriel was the second son of a poor country gentleman. Their family had bloodlines, ancient history and empty coffers. His older brother was given every privilege they could afford, and the only thing expected of Gabriel was to marry a rich woman. This was easier said than done, considering the fact that he was blind...and the "polite" society where he was expected to hunt for a bride was not very accepting of physical defects in a person.

When he turned 20, he met a wealthy young widow who found him attractive. In fact, many women in their society found him more than pleasing to the eyes, but there was more than his blindness that kept them away. Gabriel had grown to be a very guarded young man. He was almost cruel to most people when they tried to show him sympathy. Sarcasm was his best defense...he gave off an air of arrogance which pushed the members of the ton away.

But this young widow had been away from society for a while, tucked away on the Continent with her older, lecherous husband. When Anne returned to England, the first person she met at an evening musicale was Gabriel Light. She was captivated by his scowl, and pushed and pushed past his barriers til he finally let her through. Gabriel found himself lonely...tired of being left to his thoughts, tired of being pitied. So when Anne offered him companionship, he took it selfishly. He warned her that he was incapable, that he would probably be a tyrant over time, but she wanted him anyway.

And so they ended up married 6 months later. Barely 7 months into the marriage, their son Charles was born. Gabriel was happy, his wife was wonderfully satisfied and their son was a strapping, healthy baby boy. He was apparently born with the Light features, but as Gabriel had never seen himself or any of his kinsmen...he could never say for sure.

A year later, they were in London for the summer...late in returning to their home in the country when disaster struck. Anne found herself suffering from the deadly disease Cholera. She died within two days...a week later, Charles followed.

Gabriel couldn't tear himself away from their home in London, despite the urgent orders his father, brother and sister-in-law issued. He himself would have died...some say he did. When he realized that he was suffering from the same symptoms as his beloved Anne and Charles had, he left their townhouse in the dead of the night. He wanted to be with his wife and child when he died...that was all he could think of. But just as he was pushing the gates of the churchyard open, he stumbled to the ground, unable to pick himself up.

An angel came to him. He could not see her, but he could feel her in every pore of his being. He knew without seeing that she was all that was light and that she would end this suffering for him. "Take me to my family..." he murmured, trying to reach up to her.

The woman crouched beside him and lifted him up off the ground. That was when Gabriel knew for sure that she was an angel. No mortal woman would be able to bear his weight so effortlessly. And when she started singing, tears slipped through his closed eyelids. He was so near heaven that he could actually hear happiness.

A sharp sting on his neck alerted him that all was not what he thought it was. He started to struggle, but the woman's arms held him tight. He pushed against her, trying to get her teeth away from his skin and oddly enough...she let him go. Not entirely, of course, but only enough that he could stand on his own two feet. Shaky as they were, he found himself leaning on a tree trunk, breathing heavily.

He screamed and fell to his knees as a searing pain erupted where she had bitten him. "What is this?! What have you done to me? Kill me now and end this!" he cried over and over again until he was finally knocked unconscious by the pain.

Some time later, Gabriel awoke in an unfamiliar room. His body ached all over, and for the first time in his life...he saw the sunlight shining through the window.

The first words he heard were, "Good morning, my love."

[a/n: holy crap...was I writing a fanfic?! lol]

Vampire history: I'll make this short. No more paragraphs!
He was changed by a lonely female vampire who longed for a mate. She was one of the few who had turned their backs on the old ways. Valentine had lived alone for almost 300 years, and when she saw Gabriel that night...she knew that she would have to save him.

She taught him the rules of the race, taught him to hunt for animals, and yet...an old, burning hate for human society festered inside Gabriel until Valentine was forced to give up on her cause.

They parted ways after nearly 30 years together...finally accepting the fact that they were simply unable to live together.

Gabriel feeds on humans...but his victims are only those who have behaved cruelly to others less fortunate than themselves. He didn't like to think that he had any humanity left in him...but he could not bring himself to feed from women or children. They brought back the emotions from a past life and he suffered too much from it.

Current situation: He is in France, stalking the twisting streets of Paris and feeding on the scum of society. He does not want companionship...not now, not ever.
